Our Baby Is Swimming Around!

Phew! What a huge relief. Everything looks great so far with our little Baby. I'm sorry to scare you yesterday. The whole scenario felt all too familiar: Go to the midwife at 11 weeks. Don't hear a heartbeat.

Last time that happened, I was hopeful that it was just too early. And then the miscarriage happened.

This time, it wasn't so easy to stay optimistic. I turned off the comments yesterday because they get e-mailed to me, and I couldn't bear being reminded (even nicely!) while I was at work. As it was, I had to fight the tears a few times.

I was flooded with surprise when the ultrasound came on and I could see our tiny baby swimming around--little hands and feet and everything. So far, so good. Henry was very confused about seeing the baby on the screen but also trying to reconcile that with the fact that the baby is in my uterus. He kept looking back and forth between the two.

So pleased for you that everything is okay!! Here (in the UK) they won't do dopplers until about 16-17 weeks because they say you can't reliably hear a heartbeat until then, so I'm actually pretty shocked they'd even offer that to you at 11 weeks! So glad to hear all is well, we just passed our 12 week mark too (twins!), so good luck to us both.

I wanted to comment yesterday but couldn't... maybe comments were off? Not sure. Anyway, I wanted to say that 11 weeks is still totally early for the doppler. Lots of practitioners won't even try until 14 just to prevent freak outs! I have a friend who can't hear her babies hb's until much later due to the tilt of her uterus. Anyway, I'm so happy everything is going well!

So very, very glad to know everything is looking good after all! We're at the same point in our pregnancies and I also got to see my baby dancing around on the screen this week! Isn't is amazing to see little hands and feet and movement already?!?! I'm truly so relieved and happy for you, Sarah. For both of us really, as it's been a rough journey for me too. This wonderful turn of events should bring us a great measure of peace and joy for the holiday season. Hooray!
